MPP (Marijuana Policy Project), the foremost cannabis policy reform organization in the nation, is accepting applications for the position of Major Gifts Officer. The position reports directly to the Executive Director and works cooperatively with senior leadership. As our Major Gifts Officer you will design, develop and implement our major gift program. You’ll be responsible for managing and cultivating relationships with existing major donors and prospects, as well as identifying new prospects. An ability to empathize with donors and clearly communicate our organization’s mission is key. You’ll be expected to energize team members, persuade prospects and persevere to help the organization fulfill our mission.
The position is remote, but requires the ability to travel, work after hours as needed, and may require flexibility to work some weekends. The position will be paid a salary commensurate with experience and includes full benefits, vacation, sick days, and matching 401k options.

Responsibilities:
Help our donors accomplish their philanthropic goals and ambitions through a relationship with our organization
Secure major gifts at the $5,000 to $1M level with the goal of raising $1.5M annually
Create and implement moves management plans to identify, cultivate, steward, upgrade, and renew donors
Manage existing portfolio of donors
Utilize our donor database, wealth screening software, and other tools to track donors and prospects
Work with the Development Department to align efforts and set goals
Track and report on progress using specific metrics
Make direct, face-to-face solicitations, and assist the board and other staff with their solicitation efforts and donor communications
Coordinate planning and execution of events with major donors and prospects
Acknowledge major donors through public and private recognition
Qualifications & Skills:
7+ years’ experience in fundraising work, preferably with a nonprofit organization (multiple-entity organizations a plus):
You’re a true people-person with an outgoing nature. You’re a self-starter and are driven by results.
You have at least 5 years of direct nonprofit fundraising experience and have demonstrated an ability to secure individual and institutional major gifts and meet objectives.
You can make and keep friends. You make donors feel valued because you’re sensitive to their needs.
You establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies.
You are comfortable using a donor database, prospect research software and other wealth screening tools to aid in your moves management process.
You are proficient with Google Suite and Microsoft Office platforms (e.g. Google Mail, Docs, and Sheets; Microsoft Word and Excel).
You have honed your writing and speaking skills and use them to compel individuals to action.
You aren’t someone who spends a lot of time in the weeds, but you know donors expect you to be organized, prepared, detail-oriented and to follow through on promises.
People are inspired by your determination. You bring people in line with a vision and motivate them to reach goals.
Compensation:
The Major Gifts Officer will be paid a salary commensurate with experience between $90,000 and $140,000. MPP offers a robust benefits package including health insurance, optional HSA, and optional 4% matching 401(k), and three weeks off per year on top of accrued vacation.
