The Marijuana Policy Project is seeking a grassroots organizer, spokesperson, and coalition leader for statewide organizing efforts in support of regulating and taxing marijuana for adults’ use, with a focus on social justice and equity.
This consultancy is an excellent opportunity to play an integral role in helping Connecticut become one of the first states to pass a law through its legislature that will legalize marijuana for adult use and regulate it similarly to alcohol.
Submission and Selection Schedule
To be considered, please submit a resume, a brief (less than one page) statement about why you think you’re the best fit for the consulting opportunity, and a monthly payment quote no later than March 28. Phone interviews will take place on a rolling basis beginning immediately, and finalists will interview in person before March 31. MPP is seeking to engage a consultant as soon as possible. Please submit application materials to nolinger@mpp.org.
Timeline
The consultant would be engaged from April 1, 2019 through June 7, 2019.
Scope of Services
The Connecticut organizer will work closely with MPP’s New England political director (who is based in New Hampshire) to execute MPP’s strategy for building statewide support. The organizer’s responsibilities will include the following:
Conducting media interviews;
Expanding our coalition of organizations and opinion leaders who endorse adult-use legalization and organizing the existing coalition;
Utilizing the coalition’s Facebook and Twitter accounts to educate and inform supporters;
Coordinating volunteers, including for phone banking and canvassing;
Growing our network of grassroots supporters and mobilizing them to write letters, make phone calls, collect signatures, and to take other actions as needed; and
Maintaining meticulous records of all revenues and expenses for the campaign and providing this information to MPP staffers on a monthly basis.
The Connecticut organizer works most closely with MPP’s New England Political Director Matt Simon, who in turn reports to MPP's director of state policies, who in turn reports to MPP’s executive director.
