Call Kentucky Senate President Robert Stivers (pronounced STY-vers) and tell him it’s time for him to stop insulting patients and start supporting medical cannabis!
The number for Sen. Stivers’ office is 502-564-3120. Your call may be answered by a staff member, or it may go to voicemail so you can leave a brief message. Please be polite, concise, and respectful, and always remember, we are trying to persuade the Senate President, not alienate him or his staff members (who may very well agree with us). Thank you for helping to make history!
Hello, my name is _________, and I live in ____________. I’m calling to express my frustration with Senator Stivers’ uninformed comments regarding medical cannabis. It’s very insulting to suggest that patients should drink bourbon when their doctors are recommending that they use cannabis to treat a serious medical condition. Thank you for your time.
Additional talking points:
- A 2017 review by the National Academy of Sciences found “substantial evidence” that cannabis is useful in treating chronic pain.
- According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, excessive alcohol use leads to 88,000 deaths in the U.S. each year, including 2,200 deaths from alcohol poisoning. Unlike alcohol use, cannabis use is not associated with increased rates of mortality, and it has never been known to cause a fatal overdose.
- If you would like to call Sen. Stivers at home, his home number is listed on the legislature’s website: 606-598-8575. As infuriating as his comments were, it is critical that we avoid any actions that will backfire and make passing a bill more difficult. Please only call between 9:00 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. and be mindful that our goal is to change Sen. Stivers’ mind. Any threatening or particularly hostile comments will only hurt our chances of protecting patients.
