Proposed Drug-testing Policy Not Popular, According to Web Site

Kanawha County Board of Education will take up proposed drug testing policy on Dec. 13

CHARLESTON — The proposed Kanawha County drug testing policy received a lot of talk online during the public comment period, which ended Friday.

Nearly 50 people wrote to the Kanawha County Board of Education. The majority were against the proposed drug testing of employees, citing a violation of Fourth Amendments rights.

Under the policy, people in safety sensitive positions, like teachers, could be drug tested and have personal items searched if they are suspected of drug use.

The board will take up the issue at their Dec. 13 meeting.

President of the American Federation of Teachers in West Virginia said no public school system in the state drug tests their employees, with the exception of school bus drivers.
