Title:

W.V. voters have choices in November 6 election

Message:

Although this year’s medical marijuana bill (HB 4498) did not receive a public hearing in the House of Delegates, the outpouring of support for medical marijuana definitely got lawmakers’ attention, and advocates are gearing up to renew and strengthen their legislative efforts in 2013.

Unfortunately, despite our progress building support among state legislators in 2012, neither of the major party candidates for governor has made positive statements on marijuana policy. However, that doesn’t mean voters won’t have choices in the race for governor, as both the Mountain Party and Libertarian Party candidates have made strong statements in support of marijuana policy reform.

In a recent interview, Mountain Party candidate Jesse Johnson said he would “provide for the decriminalization of marijuana” to reduce prison overcrowding and “also provide for medical marijuana, which is now in so many states and hitting more and more all the time.”

Libertarian Party candidate David Moran has gone one step further. He published an editorial in the West Virginia University student newspaper calling for “the legal public sale and taxation of marijuana.”
