Title:
Tell your legislators: Give West Virginia's medical marijuana bill a fair hearing!
Message:
Sixteen states, plus
the District of Columbia, have decided to allow medical marijuana for seriously
ill patients. Don’t you think it’s time West Virginia legislators started
giving this issue some real attention?
If so, you’ll be
happy to learn that on February 10, Del.
Mike Manypenny (D-Grafton) introduced effective medical marijuana
legislation in West Virginia for
the second consecutive year. The "Compassionate Use Medical Marijuana Act”
(H.B. 4498) would allow patients with a wide variety of serious,
debilitating conditions, such as cancer, HIV/AIDS, glaucoma, multiple sclerosis, Crohn’s disease, and severe pain, nausea,
seizures, and spasms, to use medical marijuana with a doctor’s recommendation.
H.B. 4498 would allow qualifying patients to possess up to six ounces of
medical marijuana, twelve mature plants, and twelve seedlings. The bill would also
allow for creation of state-regulated, non-profit compassion centers to serve
patients who do not wish to grow their own plants.
Last year, Del.
Manypenny’s bill did not receive a public hearing. This year, patients deserve
to have their case heard and considered by the legislature. If you live in West
Virginia, please contact
your legislators and ask them to consider the evidence in support of this bill. The
more legislators hear from people like you, the more comfortable they are
likely to feel speaking and voting in favor.
The road to
passing medical marijuana in West Virginia begins with a successful public
hearing in 2012. Please share this alert with your friends and family and ask
them to take action today!
