I-75 wins in landslide victory!
In the face of fierce opposition from White House Drug Czar John Walters, the citizens of Seattle have voted for reform, making marijuana offenses the lowest priority of city law enforcement. With 97 percent of the vote counted, the measure was ahead by a margin of 58.6 percent to 41.4 percent.
This win would not have been possible without your help. For those of you who voted, told others to vote, and helped on the campaign, this is your victory. This could not have succeeded without the efforts of the folks at Sensible Seattle, everyone who participated in the coalition that was built around this initiative, and all of you who responded to the call to action in the last MPP alert.
The initiative was placed on the ballot by The Sensible Seattle Coalition and was supported by several state legislators, the King County Bar Association, the Seattle League of Women Voters, and the Washington state chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union.
This is a huge success for the people of Seattle and for marijuana policy reform activists everywhere. Thank you for supporting the Marijuana Policy Project. Please check with us often at http://www.mpp.org for updates and news about marijuana policy reform.
