Vt.: Governor Shumlin signs S. 17!

Message:

Governor Pete Shumlin today signed S. 17, a bill that will authorize up to four medical marijuana dispensaries in Vermont. Vermont now joins the growing list of states with laws that explicitly authorize and regulate dispensaries where registered patients can legally purchase medical marijuana.

VT bill signing

Governor Pete Shumlin, flanked by patients, their loved ones, and MPP’s lobbying team, signs S. 17.

Many thanks to Adam Necrason and David Mickenberg who led our two-year lobbying effort. And while today is a proud day for MPP, none of this would be possible without the tireless advocacy of patient advocates throughout the state. Patients and their loved ones came to Montpelier from all corners of the state to explain why this bill was needed and put a human face on this issue.

Though the bill has been signed, there’s one last thing you can do. Please check to see how your legislators voted and express your gratitude or disappointment. You may also wish to write a handwritten note if your legislators voted “yes.” You can also call Gov. Shumlin to thank him for protecting patients at (802) 828-3333.

Finally, please consider donating to MPP so we can continue reforming our broken marijuana laws in Vermont and around the country.

Thanks so much to everyone who helped make this day possible!
