Two dispensary applications approved in Vermont

Message:

The Vermont Department of Safety has granted conditional approval to two applicants wishing to operate dispensaries. One applicant, the Champlain Valley Dispensary, has been approved for Burlington and hopes to be open and serving patients within six months. A second applicant, Patients First Inc., has been approved for Waterbury.

The department received a total of five applications this year. It found that three of them did not yet meet the minimum standards outlined in the rules published here. A maximum of four dispensaries will be permitted by the law MPP helped pass in 2011. The department says it is not currently accepting additional applications. However, if fewer than four applications are approved this year, new applicants will be encouraged to apply in 2013.

We certainly look forward to the day when four dispensaries will be open and serving patients in Vermont, but the approval of two dispensary applicants is an excellent step in the right direction. As these dispensaries move forward with their plans to open, we will keep you posted on their progress!
