Decriminalization bills introduced in Vermont!

Message:

Are you tired of people being arrested and prosecuted for possessing small amounts of marijuana, when Vermont clearly has more important problems to deal with?

Bills have now been introduced in both the Vermont House and Senate to decriminalize marijuana possession. With strong support from Gov. Peter Shumlin, the outlook is very promising for either S. 48 or H. 200 to become law in 2013.

Please contact your representatives and senators today and ask them to support these sensible reforms!

These bills are strongly supported by a tripartisan team of sponsors in both chambers of the legislature. S. 48, sponsored by Sen. Joe Benning (R-Caledonia), has eight co-sponsors, and H. 200, sponsored by Rep. Chris Pearson (P-Burlington), has a whopping 38 co-sponsors.

To assist these courageous legislators, we need to make our voices heard, both in Montpelier and in newspapers all over the state. If you’d like help by writing a letter and getting it published in your local newspaper, please don’t hesitate to contact me at msimon@mpp.org for assistance.

Additionally, if you or a friend or family member has been arrested for possessing small amounts of marijuana, please share your story with us so we may confidentially share it with legislators. Again, the address is msimon@mpp.org.
