Title:
Act now: Vermont House and Senate considering decriminalization!
Message:
Last week was a busy week for two bills that would decriminalize possession of marijuana in Vermont. On Wednesday, the House Judiciary Committee considered testimony on H. 200, and on Thursday, the Senate Judiciary Committee considered testimony on S. 48.
A House vote is expected soon, possibly this week, so please contact legislators today and ask them to support these sensible reforms! Then, share this message with others in Vermont.
The pleasant surprise of last week’s testimony was provided by Attorney General William Sorrell, who argued that Vermont should decriminalize not only simple possession of marijuana, but also the possession of one or two plants. News articles focused on Sorrell’s testimony and the possibility of including plants in the bill, so feel free to mention this sensible alternative to the illicit market in your correspondence with legislators.
As introduced, H. 200 would decriminalize cultivation of up to two ounces of marijuana, two mature plants, and seven immature plants. S. 48 would decriminalize possession of up to one ounce, and it would not decriminalize possession of plants. Both bills would replace criminal penalties with a fine of up to $100.
