Harris County Gets 'Jail Czar'

HOUSTON — Harris County now has a 'jail czar' in an effort to crack down on jail overcrowding.

The Harris County Commissioners Court approved funding for a jail czar earlier Tuesday. The court also decided to form a panel of elected officials that will monitor the jail situation.

Everyone involved agrees that the Harris County jail has major overcrowding problems. However, local defense attorneys say they're upset that they are being left out of the process.

The county judge says lawyers will be included in working groups down the road.
