Texas medical marijuana bill gets strong hearing; now let's put it to a vote

Published: April 6, 2005

Yesterday, the House Criminal Jurisprudence Committee heard H.B. 658, which, if passed, would give medical marijuana patients an affirmative defense to prosecution. The hearing went favorably and featured a slate of supportive witnesses—including the Texas Nurses Association, three patients, a retired physician, a minister, and the executive director of Texans for Medical Marijuana (TMM)—with no visible opposition.

Clearly, this hearing would not have been possible without the hard work and preparation by TMM—a Marijuana Policy Project grant recipient—and the courage of the numerous patients, medical experts, and community leaders.

Let's build on this momentum. Please call or e-mail the members below and politely ask them to vote H.B. 658 out of committee
