Support Texans for Medical Marijuana

Message:

MPP is passing along the following message on behalf of Texans for Medical Marijuana.

It is time for Texas to guarantee that seriously ill patients have safe and legal access to medical marijuana under their doctors' supervision. Texans for Medical Marijuana was recently organized to coordinate strategies that will enable all interested Texans to participate in the realization of this mission. Our goal is to identify, educate, and inspire Texans to influence their legislators to vote for medical marijuana legislation during 2004 and 2005.

We invite you to visit our new Web site. The site was designed to make it easy for people to educate themselves about the issue and then get involved. The site includes educational links to a medical marijuana video, profiles of Texas patients, a list of supportive organizations, top medical marijuana stories, and much more. We encourage you to get involved in the campaign by signing our on-line petition, signing up for e-mail updates, writing a letter to your elected officials, and reviewing our list of volunteer opportunities and then volunteering with us.

During the next month an excellent way to get involved is to submit a medical marijuana resolution at the Democratic or Republican Party precinct or senatorial district conventions. Submitting a resolution at the precinct conventions is the first step to securing a medical marijuana plank in the party platforms. The Green and Libertarian parties already support medical marijuana in their party platforms. We are happy to answer questions about how to participate in this process and encourage you to visit the statewide-resolutions link on our home page, where you can read about the process and download a copy of our proposed resolution, so that you can submit it to your local conventions.

We are very excited about the overwhelming response we have already received for this campaign. This is a movement that cannot be stopped. Eight states currently protect medical marijuana patients from arrest. Last year, Maryland's Republican governor signed a law that protects such patients from prison. Currently, medical marijuana legislation is pending in 12 other states. By working together to spread the word about this campaign we can send the message to our politicians that it is not only their moral obligation but politically safe to vote for medical marijuana legislation in Texas.

We look forward to working with you.

Sincerely,

Noelle Davis

Executive Director
