Contact your legislators before the 2002 session concludes

Message:

The South Carolina legislature is set to adjourn for the year two weeks from tomorrow on Thursday, June 6.

Although the legislature failed to consider any bills regarding medical marijuana or the responsible use of marijuana by adults, you can still encourage your elected representatives to take immediate action in support of patients who need legal protection for using medical marijuana.

Over the last year, state legislators from across the country have been signing a letter to President Bush, asking him to allow seriously ill people to apply for an exception to the federal government's harsh marijuana laws.

More than 300 legislators from 43 states and the District of Columbia have signed the letter, including four from South Carolina:

 Rep. Gilda Cobb-Hunter (D-Orangeburg)

 Rep. Walter P. Lloyd (D-Walterboro)

 Sen. John R. Kuhn (R-Charleston)

 Sen. Linda H. Short (D-Chester)

Please take a moment and visit MPP's South Carolina webpage and email your own legislators, encouraging them to sign the letter to Bush if they have not done so already. As the national list of supportive legislators continues to grow, the Bush administration will be more inclined to soften its stance on medical marijuana.

This will be the last chance to communicate with many South Carolina lawmakers before they return to their homes and prepare for upcoming elections. Your correspondence could leave a lasting impression on them regarding the importance of medical marijuana.
