Title:
Armed police officers terrorize high school students
Message:
Last Wednesday, November 5, 14 police officers—with weapons drawn—stormed a Goose Creek high school and forced students to the ground while searching book bags, looking for drugs. No drugs were found.
Students were terrified, and parents were infuriated. By contrast, the principal of Stratford High School, George McCrackin—who asked police to come to the school to help with a "growing drug problem"—didn't find the incident unreasonable. He said, "I don't think it was an overreaction on our part. I'm sure it was an inconvenience to those individuals who were in the hallway, but there is a valuable experience there."
That assessment dissatisfied many parents. LeTonia Simmons said, "I was just upset knowing they had guns put to their head. … It was awful. … Why did they have to take all that force?"
One terrorized 14-year-old student, Aaron Sims, said, "They would go put a gun to them [the students], push them against the wall, take their book bags and search them. … I was scared."
Please help these parents and students express their outrage by contacting your state legislators, the Berkeley County School Board, and the police department that was responsible for this atrocity.
