PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP)—A Washington-based advocacy group is offering financial help to medical marijuana patients who can't pay a state licensing fee.
Patients with illnesses such as cancer and AIDS can get cards from the state to legally buy medical marijuana. To get a card, they must get written certification from a doctor and pay a 75 dollar fee.
The Medical Marijuana Policy Project says it will pay the fee for qualified patients who can't afford it. The group was active in lobbying state legislators to legalize medical marijuana earlier this year.
Patients who receive Medicaid and other federal assistance pay a 10 dollar fee.
