Session deadline approaching: Leadership needs to hear from you!
Published: June 7, 2010
According to our sources in Providence, the Rhode Island General Assembly is planning on adjourning for the year as early as Wednesday, June 9th! This gives us only a couple more days to ensure our marijuana decriminalization bills get votes in both committee and on the floor. In order to ensure the necessary votes, leadership needs to hear from you! Please take a few minutes of your time and call both legislative leaders TODAY! Please also pass this on to your friends and family. Follow the instructions below to call legislative leadership urging them to listen to reason and their constituents and give decriminalization the vote it deserves.
1. Please call Senate President Teresa Paiva-Weed and request that she bring SB 2786 to a committee and floor vote. If you are from Newport, please let her know that you are a constituent.
2. Once you have completed that call, I hope you will then call Speaker of the House Gordon Fox requesting that he allow his chamber to vote on the House version of the bill, HB 7317. Speaker Fox represents District 4 in Providence. If you are from Providence, please mention that.
Once you have finished making these vital calls, please e-mail me at rcapecchi@mpp.org and let me know how they went. I know that, on some level, making a couple calls can be a hassle. However, these calls are a breeze considering what the your fellow citizens who are saddled with a criminal record for simple possession of marijuana have to deal with. Please also spread the word to other sensible Ocean Staters.
Thank you so much for all your time, energy and support.
