Title:
R.I.: Offer your support for a viable compassion center program
Message:
House and Senate health committees met yesterday evening to debate the passage of twin bills — S 2555 and H 7888 — that would allow the Department of Health to cap the amount of marijuana that compassion centers may possess at any time. The bill is the result of negotiations between legislative leaders and the governor’s office and, if passed, will result in Gov. Lincoln Chafee allowing the compassion centers to finally open. Please email your senator and representative today and ask them to support a viable compassion center plan.
While we are thrilled that an agreement in principle exists, we are concerned that the bill as written will threaten the viability of the centers themselves. The bill should allow the centers to cultivate a crop while awaiting a department ruling and cap only the number of plants they can grow, not the amount of usable medical marijuana they can possess. Please ask your elected officials to make these minor changes.
In addition to the compassion center bill, our marijuana decriminalization bill was heard on Tuesday in Senate Judiciary. Your legislators need to know the support this bill enjoys. Tell them today!
Thanks so much.
