Title:
R.I.: Compassion center legislation moves to Senate floor
Message:
Yesterday evening, the Senate Health and Human Services Committee unanimously passed S2555, the Senate version of the negotiated compromise between Gov. Lincoln Chafee and legislative champions, Sen. Rhoda Perry and Rep. Scott Slater. The bill — which would pave the way for compassion centers to finally open — now moves to the Senate floor and can be voted on as early as today. Please email your senator and ask her or him to vote “yes” on S2555.
The bill will restrict compassion centers to possessing no more than 1,500 ounces of usable medical marijuana at any given time. It will also limit cultivation to 150 plants, no more than 99 of which can be mature. If signed into law, patients and caregivers will be able to sell excess usable marijuana directly to the compassion centers; the caregivers must first attest that the patients registered with them have had their needs met. Ask your senator to support this bill!
The house will take up the bill next week, but the Senate could vote before then. Make sure your senator knows to vote “yes” to S2555!
