Title:
Marijuana decriminalization hearing in Providence
Message:
I just returned from Providence and am excited to report that we had a wonderful hearing on a bill to decriminalize possession of an ounce or less of marijuana. H 7092, a bill introduced by Rep. John Edwards, was heard in the House Committee on Judiciary and all but one witness spoke in favor of the bill. Email your elected officials today to make sure they’re aware of the overwhelming support for this change.
H 7092 would replace the criminal penalties for possession of up to an ounce of marijuana with a civil violation of $150. Supportive testimony was submitted by the SSDP chapters from both Brown and University of Rhode Island, LEAP, the Rhode Island chapter of the National Association of Social Workers, and the Rhode Island Office of the Public Defender, as well as many supportive citizens from across the state. Feel free to join us by asking your elected officials to support this sensible change.
This proposal is supported by a majority of both chambers of the legislature, as well as a majority of the Rhode Island public. Make sure your elected officials are on the right side of history by asking them to support H 7092.
