Tell the Judiciary Committee to oppose HB 2982

Published: February 22, 2011

On Wednesday, February 23, the House Judiciary Committee will meet to take testimony on HB 2982, a bill introduced by Rep. Matt Wingard that seeks to negatively amend the Oregon medical marijuana program. Our records indicate that your representative sits on this committee. Please contact him or her today and voice your opposition to this bad bill.

HB 2982 would deny individuals convicted of a controlled substances crime from using or receiving a medical marijuana ID card. In addition, this bill would require the Oregon Health Authority to conduct a background check on all current cardholders and revoke an ID from any patient or caregiver previously convicted of a felony. Not only would this mass background check be an incredible waste of money, but it can only be motivated by animus towards patients. Whether Rep. Wingard likes it or not, ex-offenders get sick, too. Please call your representative and ask him or her to oppose this bill!

Thank you for subscribing to MPP’s alerts. With your help, we can defeat this bad bill in committee.
