Dispensary measure fails at the polls

Published: November 3, 2010

The polls have closed and, unfortunately, the doors to medical marijuana dispensaries will not be opened. Measure 74, which would have established oversight and licensing requirements for medical marijuana dispensaries in Oregon, was defeated by the voters yesterday. Fortunately, this does not make any changes to the current medical marijuana program in Oregon, which allows registered patients to grow their own medicine or have a caregiver grow it for them.

The Marijuana Policy Project would like to congratulate the entire Yes on Measure 74 campaign team for their admirable work during a rough electoral climate. Their dedication and determination over the past two years is a model for others who would stand up and fight on behalf of patients in need of safe and reliable access to medical marijuana. MPP would also like to thank all of our supporters who canvassed for votes, phonebanked for Measure 74, or just told your friends and family to support the measure. Your efforts will not be forgotten.
