Former Coach Charged With Marijuana Possession

Former Capitol Hill High School football coach Pascal Jones has been removed as a coach and teacher at Capitol Hill after being arrested Friday.

Jones, 38, was arrested on a complaint of possession of marijuana and was released from the Oklahoma County jail Saturday.

Oklahoma City Public Schools communications spokesman Kathleen Kennedy said the district will review all necessary disciplinary actions and that an internal investigation is underway. Kennedy said Jones will have no access to the students in the classroom or to the students on the field.

Jones taught physical education and oversaw Capitol Hill's in-school suspension program. He also coached the girls track team and was an assistant boys basketball coach.

Capitol Hill athletic director Juan Villarreal declined to comment about Jones' situation but did say the Redskins football program will continue their schedule.

Villarreal said Darrell Peterson will be the acting head coach. Peterson has been an assistant before but was not on the Redskins' coaching staff last year. Capitol Hill ends spring practices this week. Villarreal said he was not sure if Peterson would be named the full-time coach and said the program is approaching the future one day at a time.

"We're trying to not really think about it,” said Vandell Mosley, who will be a senior on the football team in the fall. "We're still going out there and working hard. We have to focus on us.”

Some of the students were not notified about what happened with Jones until Tuesday afternoon.

"It's disappointing because coach Jones has always done so much for us kids,” said Remy Boswell, after hearing the news. "He's always been there when we've needed someone. He still is a great person. Everybody makes mistakes. Hopefully, he can get a second chance sometime.”

Boswell is a senior on the boys basketball team.

Jones became Capitol Hill's football coach in 2003, his first head coaching position. He was an assistant football coach at Northeast for eight seasons before that under his father, Archie. He was also an assistant football coach at U.S. Grant for three years.

The Redskins were 2-8 last season and 3-47 under Jones. The two wins are the most Capitol Hill has had since 1999. The Redskins have not had a winning season since 1989.

Numerous calls to Jones were not returned.
