Urge your Ohio legislators to sponsor a medical marijuana bill

Published: June 19, 2009

Ohio law currently says that sick and dying patients should be arrested and prosecuted if they use medical marijuana. Indeed, an elderly patient was arrested recently for growing her own medicine. Fortunately, the charges were eventually dismissed.

This arrest clearly shows the need for a compassionate medical marijuana law. Please contact your state legislators now and urge them to introduce a bill to allow seriously ill patients to use medical marijuana with their doctors' recommendations.

Last year Sen. Tom Roberts (D-Trotwood) introduced a medical marijuana bill, but it did not receive a committee vote. Sadly, Sen. Roberts is no longer in the legislature and no legislator has stepped forward to introduce a bill this year to protect these patients.

A recent poll found that 73% of Ohio voters favor allowing Ohio doctors to prescribe marijuana for medical purposes to treat their patients. Clearly, supporting this change in the law is not politically risky. But your legislators need to see support firsthand.

Please pass this alert on to others in Ohio who are supportive of medical marijuana so they can contact their legislators as well. Thank you for supporting the Marijuana Policy Project.
