North Carolina's legislative session is under way; medical marijuana resolution carried over from 2003

The North Carolina General Assembly's 2004 legislative session began last month, and medical marijuana resolution H.J.R. 1038 has carried over from the 2003 session. This resolution could represent the first step toward protecting medical marijuana patients in North Carolina. Please contact your representative and urge him or her to support H.J.R. 1038: Only you can convince them that this issue is vital to North Carolinians.

Please take a few moments to visit Take Action. After you choose your favorite pre-written letter and type in your address, our site will automatically e-mail your letter to your representative … all with the click of a few buttons. The whole process takes less than two minutes, but it makes a world of difference. Also, you can print your letter and send it to your representative through regular mail.

H.J.R. 1038, sponsored by Rep. Paul Leubke (D-Durham) would authorize the Legislative Research Commission to study the possession, cultivation, and use of marijuana for medical purposes. The commission would report its findings to the legislature in 2005 and, if passed, H.J.R. 1038 would likely serve as a catalyst for a bill that would protect North Carolina's medical marijuana patients from arrest.
