N.C.: Ask your representative to “discharge” medical marijuana legislation

Published: June 8, 2011

Yesterday, Rep. Kelly Alexander Jr. (D-Mecklenburg County) hosted a rally and educational event to publicize his medical marijuana bill that was introduced earlier this year. Rep. Alexander’s bill is stuck in House Rules, so he is collecting his colleagues’ signatures on a discharge petition. If enough representatives sign this petition, the bill will skip the committee process and immediately go to the House floor for a vote. This bill needs to be passed on to the Senate by Thursday to keep it alive this session. Please email your legislators today and ask them to sign this discharge petition!

In addition to protecting patients and caregivers from arrest and prosecution, H 577 would establish a regulated medical marijuana supply system to provide safe, reliable access to vital medicine for registered patients. Please email your representative and ask him or her to sign the petition and vote “yes” on the floor.

In addition, if you are a medical marijuana patient or caregiver, or a medical professional supportive of medical marijuana, please email state@mpp.org to see how you can be of further help.

Please stay tuned for further developments, and register your support for medical marijuana with your local legislators!
