Richard Wulf, 58, Howard Beach (Queens)
"After battling and beating addiction, I do not want to ever be intoxicated again. I don't even drink alcohol. I suffer from debilitating arthritis, hepatitis C, and migraines that at times cause blindness for up to 40 minutes. I need to manage my symptoms, but I don't want to use opiates and narcotics. Addiction is too great a risk, and my liver is so damaged from hepatitis that most prescriptions are dangerous. For six years, I went without any medications and suffered from terrible nausea that often prevented me from eating. Within a four-month period, I lost 40 pounds. Eventually, I found medical marijuana. It provides me relief from my pain, appetite loss, and nausea, and allowed me to maintain my weight. Should it be a crime to want to live without pain and not want to return to addiction?"
