Kevin Smith, M.D., 52, Saugerties

"I suffer from two autoimmune diseases, Crohn's Disease, and Ankylosing Spondylitis. In order to bear the pain, I have been taking large doses of narcotic medications. They cost $3,500 per month, make me unable to work, and do not fully relieve the pain. While visiting Amsterdam, I tried marijuana for pain control. It was miracle for me, allowing me to sleep through the night without being awakened by pain and to stop my narcotic medications. I have never used illegal drugs and will not use marijuana without the state's approval. Please allow me to relieve my pain."
