Title:
Volunteers needed to help pass medical marijuana in New York
Message:
Despite poll numbers and election results, some legislators still do not understand the extent of medical marijuana’s popularity. They think they must oppose medical marijuana legislation because they are mistakenly afraid their districts will punish them politically.
The most effective way to change these legislators’ minds is for them to hear directly from their constituents. We are asking for your help in getting constituents to reach out to their legislators with a personal touch.
We have postcards with messages in support of passing medical marijuana legislation in New York, and we’re looking for volunteers to help collect them in key state Senate districts. We’re specifically focusing on Buffalo, Rochester, the Lower Hudson Valley and Catskills, the Bronx, Brooklyn, Staten Island, and Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
The messages are already pre-printed on the postcards, so all you have to do is have supporters write their addresses on the back and sign the cards. You can start with friends and family, and then collect dozens more at large public meeting spots like movie theaters, business districts, libraries, or subway stops.
If you are interested in this project, please send me an email at state@mpp.org, and we’ll talk more about the details.
