Public hearing on medical marijuana on January 22 in Albany

Published: January 16, 2003

The New York State Assembly will be holding a public hearing on medical marijuana on Wednesday, January 22, at 10:00 a.m. The hearing will take place in Roosevelt Hearing Room C on the second floor of the legislative office building in Albany. Please attend this hearing to support those testifying as well as New York's medical marijuana patients.

The Marijuana Policy Project expects a medical marijuana bill to be reintroduced in New York state in early 2003. Medical marijuana legislation has been introduced in the past, but it has never moved out of committee. This year, the political climate is ripe to move the bill along. A strong showing at the hearing will send a powerful message to New York's legislators and help bring medical marijuana legislation to the assembly floor.

If at all possible, please join the growing community of patients, their families, doctors, nurses, activists, and compassionate citizens rallying for medical marijuana in New York. Only the dedicated support and activism of concerned citizens like yourself will open legislators' eyes to the current plight of medical marijuana patients.

Please attend this important event.

You may wish to call ahead if you plan on attending. Please contact Michael Rabinowitz of the Assembly Health Committee staff at 518-455-4941. Additionally, any patients, doctors, or nurses who are interested in testifying at the hearing should contact Michael Rabinowitz as soon as possible.
