N.Y.: Gov. Cuomo supports improving marijuana policy; write your legislators today!

Message:

Yesterday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced his support for ending unlawful marijuana arrests in New York! Momentum is building to take on this issue, thanks to supporters like you. The New York Legislature adjourns very soon, and we're teaming up with our allies on a petition in the final push to end wasteful marijuana arrests in New York.

Urge New York’s legislative leadership to support reforms that would end wasteful, racially biased, and illegal marijuana arrests now!

Even though New York State decriminalized marijuana 35 years ago, New York — especially New York City — has become the marijuana arrest capital of the world. Possessing small amounts of marijuana is not a crime in New York, but police often illegally search people — mostly people of color — or trick them into taking it out of their pockets, making it a misdemeanor. Once they do so, police arrest them for having marijuana in "public view."

Let's close this “public view” loophole. With your help, we can prevent tens of thousands of New Yorkers from being illegally arrested every year and save scarce police resources.

Special thanks to our allies at the Drug Policy Alliance for their leadership on this campaign!
