Can you volunteer this weekend to generate phone calls to key New York senators?

Published: June 25, 2010

On day five of the Legislature Watch, the end of the session keeps approaching and patients are still waiting. The Senate has never passed a medical marijuana bill, and they must do so in the next week, so we’re trying to reach out to a group of targeted senators to get them to commit to voting "yes" on medical marijuana.

If you are available to volunteer this weekend to set up a table to generate cellphone calls to target senators, please e-mail nmamber@mpp.org. In the e-mail, please put the word "Volunteer" in the title, and include your name, cell phone number, e-mail address, town/city and county in which you’re located, and available times to help out on Saturday and Sunday.

Also, don’t forget to continue to call Senator Sampson to thank him for his support and urge him to give medical marijuana a vote in the Senate as soon as possible. Please also call Gov. Paterson and ask him to reverse course and include medical marijuana in the budget.

We’re looking to send out teams of volunteers to a number of districts across the state, including Buffalo, North Country, the Hudson Valley (both sides of the Hudson), Brooklyn, and Staten Island. No matter where you live, however, let us know if you’re available, and we’ll try to plug you in.

Help make sure that this last, best opportunity to help seriously ill patients slip away.  Please also urge other New Yorkers to act now before it is too late. Forward this message to at least 10 New Yorkers, post the link to your social networking sites, and otherwise spread the word. We must not let another year go by with patients criminalized for treating their illnesses.

Thank you for your support and compassion.
