Another landslide victory! Now, we're a half-step away from the Assembly floor

Today, June 18, the Assembly Ways and Means Committee passed medical marijuana bill A. 5796 by an overwhelming margin. This bill has now had three huge committee victories, and it is a half-step away from the Assembly floor.

We are in sudden death, as the clock may run out on the 2003 legislative session as soon as tomorrow. It is a long shot, but with your help it is possible to bring this medical marijuana bill to a full Assembly roll-call vote.

Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver (D-64th Assembly District) again holds the key to victory. The bill now goes to the Rules Committee, and only Speaker Silver can call this crucial vote.

Please visit Take Action now to send a pre-written letter to Speaker Silver that asks him to bring A. 5796 up for an Assembly roll-call vote. After you choose your favorite pre-written letter and type in your address, our site will automatically fax or e-mail your letter to Speaker Silver … all with the click of a few buttons. The whole process takes less than two minutes, but it makes a world of difference.

For one last time this session, we need your help. And we need it right now. Please fax or e-mail Speaker Silver and pass this alert on to another New Yorker who supports the medical marijuana cause. Do it for the cancer and AIDS patients in New York; do it because A. 5796 has the support of New York's nurses, health officials, and many doctors; or do it simply because it is the right thing to do. It takes only a moment, so please help MPP fight the good fight and Take Action now.
