Act now: Your N.Y. state senator will be voting on medical marijuana Tuesday

For the first time ever, a New York State Senate committee will be voting on a modern medical marijuana bill on Tuesday, May 26. You are in a unique position to affect this vote: Our records indicate that your state senator is one of the 17 senators who sit on the Senate Health Committee.

Please take two minutes to call your state senator now and ask him or her to stand up for seriously ill patients on Tuesday. Monday is a holiday, so it's important you call now. This is the last full business day before the vote.

We have heard from all too many seriously ill patients who have been arrested for using the medicine that works best for them.  From a breast cancer patient branded a felon for growing a safe supply of her medicine to a sickle cell anemia patient arrested for possessing his medicine, the stories are harrowing. This can be the year that we put an end to this madness, but we need your help to get past this first hurdle.

S. 4041-A, sponsored by Senate Health Committee Chair Tom Duane and 15 co-sponsors, would allow seriously ill patients whose doctors recommend medical marijuana to possess and grow a limited amount of medical marijuana. Once federal law changes, it would allow for well-regulated distribution.

Please, don't forget to ask your state senator to support this compassionate bill. Then ask any friends and neighbors in your area to do the same. You can also urge anyone you know in New York to contact their state senator.

Thank you for supporting the Marijuana Policy Project. Together, we can make New York the 14th state to protect terminally and seriously ill patients from arrest.
