Title:

Medical marijuana under attack in New Mexico

Message:

When patients in New Mexico apply to participate in the state’s medical cannabis program, the most often cited condition is post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), a condition that commonly affects veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. Medical marijuana is an effective option for many of these patients and carries far fewer and less severe side effects than the medications that are typically prescribed for sufferers. Unfortunately, those vets may soon be unable to obtain medical marijuana.

Urge Governor Martinez and the Secretary of Health to stand up for patients and protect New Mexico’s medical cannabis program.

Recently, a petition was filed by opponents who would like to remove PTSD from the list of qualifying conditions under the law. There will be a hearing next week at which both sides will present their evidence, and the Secretary of Health, appointed by Governor Martinez, will then decide whether or not to remove PTSD from the list. In the mean time, we need supporters to let them know that patients deserve access to the medicine that works best for them. Please, do your part for New Mexicans suffering with PTSD by taking less than a minute of your time to send an email to Governor Martinez and Secretary McGrath today.

Thanks, and we’ll keep you posted.
