Martinez would repeal medical marijuana law
Published: October 29, 2010
Election Day is this coming Tuesday, and New Mexico voters
face a stark choice in the gubernatorial race. On one side, Republican Susana
Martinez recently
indicated that she would work to repeal New Mexico’s medical marijuana law.
This announcement comes as a bit of a shock given the record
support for medical marijuana these days. It’s especially surprising that
Martinez would express opposition to New Mexico’s law, the first in the country
to authorize state-regulated dispensaries, which has served as a model to
states around the country looking for best practices to replicate.

Fortunately, voters in New Mexico
have an alternative to Martinez. Democratic nominee Diane Denish has said
unequivocally that she supports the state’s medical marijuana law. "For
people in chronic pain or with terminal illnesses, it's very important for
people with cancer, PTSD or other afflictions to have every possible means of
alleviating pain," Denish
said recently.
For voters who support compassionate
access to medical marijuana, the choice is clear. If you need help finding your
