Civil asset forfeiture hearing will take place tomorrow

Message:

Thank you to every New Mexico resident who has made phone calls to committee members and has used MPP's Web site to e-mail their own legislators in support of this year's drug policy reform bills.

MPP typically has only one day's notice prior to most hearings, and we get that information to you as soon as possible each time.

The civil asset forfeiture reform bill, Senate Bill 5, will be heard in the Senate Judiciary Committee tomorrow, Wednesday, January 30, at 2:00 p.m. The bill requires that a person be convicted of a crime before property related to the alleged offense can be forfeited.

Please take a moment to call the members of the Senate committee and encourage them to support this bill.

It is important to place your calls today or before noon tomorrow so that the legislators will have heard from you prior to the hearing.
