Title:
Act now for medical marijuana in New Mexico
Message:
With your help, this could be the year that legislators pass medical marijuana legislation in New Mexico. Introduced by Sen. Gerald Ortiz y Pino (D-12), S.B. 238 (also known as The Lynn and Erin Compassionate Use Act) would remove criminal penalties for the state's seriously ill medical marijuana patients. This bill is similar to past legislation introduced in New Mexico and has a good chance of passing this year.
S.B. 238 has already passed the Senate with overwhelming support the vote was 34 to 7! Now the bill sits in the House Agriculture andamp Water Services Committee, where it will have a hearing on Saturday, February 24. Please take a moment to call the committee members and urge them to support this compassionate, sensible legislation:
Rep. Andy Nunez (D-36) chair (505) 986-4423
Rep. Ray Begaye (D-4) vice chair (505) 986-4436
Rep. Joseph Cervantes (D-52) (505) 986-4249
Rep. Jimmie C. Hall (R-28) (505) 986-4215
Rep. Dona G. Irwin (D-32) (505) 986-4249
Rep. Larry A. Larranaga (R-27) (505) 986-4215
Rep. Don L. Tripp (R-49) (505) 986-4220
Urge the representatives to support S.B. 238 on Saturday. And please remember to be firm but always polite in your support for medical marijuana. We want to appeal to legislators, not alienate them.
Once you've done that, take a moment to call your specific state representative, if he or she is not on this committee. New Mexico's senators are already strongly supportive of the bill, so now is the time for the House to join them in support.
Please take a moment to call, as legislators truly do listen to their constituents.
Thank you for supporting the Marijuana Policy Project. Please forward this alert to your friends and family in New Mexico, so that they may also become involved in reform.
