Urge your legislators to introduce a medical marijuana bill

Published: March 12, 2002

Thank you to everyone who has used MPP's New Jersey Web site to e-mail their state legislators, encouraging them to introduce a medical marijuana bill this year. Direct communication with legislators is the greatest way to influence their preferences and priorities during the session.

Unfortunately, only one in six New Jersey residents who receive these alerts has taken action.

Not surprisingly, no legislators have come forward to sponsor a bill. Fortunately, there is no filing deadline, so it is not too late to e-mail those who represent you in the legislature.

Please visit /NJ to do so today.

It only takes a few minutes to select and submit a letter that could be the decisive message that leads to protection for seriously ill New Jersey residents.

Although the sponsor of last year's medical marijuana bill is no longer in the legislature, this is a good year for reform. Other drug policy issues—such as racial profiling and needle exchange—are finally getting serious attention from New Jersey's lawmakers. Let's make sure they consider medical marijuana, as well.

Please forward this alert to others in New Jersey who might be interested in taking action on medical marijuana. More e-mails to legislators mean more support for this important issue.

As always, thank you for your help in the effort to protect patients in the state who need to use medical marijuana.
