New Jersey Legislature to vote on medical marijuana on Monday!
Published: January 7, 2010
On Monday, January 11, the last day of its lame duck legislative session, the New Jersey Legislature will cast a final vote on medical marijuana legislation. Outgoing Assembly Speaker Joe Roberts (D-Brooklawn) will fulfill his promise and post the bill for a vote that day, after compromise language reconciling the Senate and Assembly versions of the bill has been finalized. This is an incredibly exciting development, and represents the culmination of a long year’s worth of work by New Jersey activists. S.119 passed the Senate on February 23, and A. 804, a bill with several key differences, passed the Assembly Health and Senior Services Committee on June 4. If the legislation passes, Gov. Jon Corzine (D) has said he'll sign it before leaving office.
Please write your assemblymembers and ask them to vote to protect patients on Monday.
The Drug Policy Alliance New Jersey and the Coalition for Medical Marijuana-New Jersey have done an amazing job leading the lobbying efforts to pass this important legislation. The nation will be watching to see whether the Garden State will plant the seeds of compassion in its soil.
Thank you for supporting MPP and our allies in New Jersey. With your help, New Jersey will become the 14th state to stop arresting sick and dying patients for using medical marijuana to relieve their suffering.
