New Hampshire: Urge Gov. Hassan to support HB 573

Directions: The contact number for Gov. Hassan’s office is 603-271-2121. Please call during business hours and be polite and respectful. We are trying to persuade Gov. Hassan, not alienate her. Rude or hostile callers will only make our job tougher. Also note that you will be speaking to a member of the governor’s staff as opposed to the governor herself. If you are directed to voicemail, please leave a message with your name and number. If you are a patient with a serious illness, the loved one of a patient, a member of the clergy, or a medical professional, please personalize your message.

Suggested call script:

Hello, my name is _________ and I’m from ________ (your town or city). I think it’s nice that Governor Hassan says she wants to help patients, but I’m very sorry to learn that she thinks patients should remain criminals if they choose to grow a few of their own plants.

Many patients can’t afford to wait two or more years for alternative treatment centers. The House voted overwhelmingly for HB 573, which included immediate legal protections for patients and would have allowed them to grow three plants each. I was appalled when I heard Gov. Hassan had insisted on striking the home grow provision and gutting the bill’s affirmative defense provision.

This means patients who are suffering today would get no relief from this bill, and they may have to continue risking arrest to buy marijuana from the illicit market. Is that what Gov. Hassan wants?

Please pass on my request that Gov. Hassan change her position and support this carefully crafted, compassionate bill as it was overwhelmingly approved by the House. Thank you for your time.
