Title:

Pro-reform candidates advance in New Hampshire primary!

Message:

I’m pleased to report that candidates indicating support for medical marijuana scored big — and in a few cases, very close — victories in yesterday’s primary election.

In the Republican race for governor, Ovide Lamontagne defeated medical marijuana opponent Kevin Smith.

On the Democratic ticket, medical marijuana supporter Maggie Hassan prevailed over two other supportive candidates. Hassan, the former Senate majority leader who supported medical marijuana in 2009, will appear on general election ballots alongside Lamontagne and a third supportive candidate, Libertarian John Babiarz.

In critical New Hampshire Senate races, medical marijuana supporters John Reagan (R-Deerfield), Josh Youssef (R-Laconia), Andy Sanborn (R-Bedford), and Sam Cataldo (R-Farmington) were all victorious in Republican primaries and will move on to compete in the general election.

Three of these races showed just how important a few votes can be. Results published at WMUR.com show Reagan winning by 129 votes, Youssef by 326 votes, and Cataldo by 205 votes.

After the dust settles from this hotly contested primary season, MPP will release its voter guide for the Nov. 6 general election. Thank you for taking time to inform yourself about candidates for office!
