Title:
N.H.: Will cancer patient’s dying wish be fulfilled?
Message:
Call Gov. Hassan today!
Last week we told you about Hardy Macia, a cancer patient who recorded a compelling video message for Gov. Hassan from his hospital bed. Hardy was outraged by Gov. Hassan’s insistence that senators remove the home cultivation provision from HB 573, and his video generated lots of media coverage, including a WMUR news broadcast.
Sadly, Hardy passed away yesterday. He had been battling Hodgkin’s Lymphoma since August.
As this obituary notes, Hardy “spent one of his last breaths” appealing to Gov. Hassan on behalf of patients who need immediate legal protections and can’t afford to wait two or more years for access through alternative treatment centers.
If you are inspired by Hardy’s desire to help others, please call Gov. Hassan’s office today!
In addition to insisting on removal of the home cultivation provision, Gov. Hassan demanded that the Senate severely restrict the bill’s affirmative defense provision, rendering it useless until the health department begins issuing ID cards (which could take up to 19 months).
By contrast, the House version would have immediately given qualifying patients a defense they could use in court to avoid being convicted. This protection is critical for patients who are suffering!
Please call Gov. Hassan today and urge your friends and family to do the same!
