Some Say New Medicinal Marijuana Guidelines Could Open Doors for Legal Selling

The Department of Justice announced new guidelines on medical marijuana. Some say it's a big win while others argue it won't even mean much for Nevadans.
While Nevada is one of 14 states that allows doctors to prescribe marijuana, we can't sell it, like California can.
Over the past few years federal DEA agents have raided those dispensaries. These new guidelines are intended to keep that from happening and keep the feds chasing the serious, big traffickers.
Nevada's ACLU spokesperson, Allen Lichtenstein, says it might not make a big difference right now considering Nevadans are only allowed to grow it.
However, he says this could open doors to allow for selling medicinal marijuana in the future.
"Hopefully now with this decision the law will develop so there will be mechanisms of dispensing medical marijuana," Lichtenstein says.
Not everyone thinks these new guidelines are a positive. A Texas congressman said that it will weaken the war on drugs. But those for it argue the war on drugs cannot be used as a way to keep people from the drugs they need when they are sick. |
