Title:
Stand up for marijuana regulation at town halls
Message:
Nevada is facing a fiscal crisis and it's time for you to do something about it. This Saturday, you can take charge of our state's future by calling for a regulated and taxed marijuana market.
Earlier this week, Governor Gibbons delivered the State of the State address and it wasn't good news. Nevada is facing a deficit of nearly $900 million. Before the address, Nevadans for Sensible Marijuana Laws sent out a press release asking the Governor and our legislators to seriously consider taxing and regulating marijuana as a way to generate tens of millions of dollars in tax revenue and produce significant cost savings for law enforcement. In addition, such a market would create thousands of jobs and new businesses in Nevada at a time when we are in need of a more diversified economy.
We now need you to demonstrate that citizens around the state support the idea of regulating and taxing marijuana. Saturday is your chance. The Nevada Legislature will be holding an open “Town Hall” on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. to hear public testimony on proposals for balancing the state budget. These will be held at the following locations for public input:
Grant Sawyer State Office Building - Room 4401
555 East Washington Avenue, Las Vegas, Nevada
Reno City Hall, City Council Chambers
1 East First Street, Reno, Nevada
If you plan to attend, please reply to this e-mail to let us know. We would be happy to talk to you about messaging, but the basic point to keep in mind is that a regulated marijuana market for adults would generate tens of millions of dollars in tax revenue and would create thousands of new jobs. You could also point out that it is completely illogical not to make the marijuana market legitimate, given the fact that marijuana is far less harmful than alcohol and could actually be a safer alternative for adults in the state.
Thanks in advance for getting involved!
