Marijuana Policy Project at work in Nevada

Message:

Hello! My name is Dave Schwartz, and I'm the new manager of the Marijuana Policy Project of Nevada. As I settle in, I wanted to thank you for your continued support of MPP-NV and to formally introduce myself.

Having spent more than 20 years in this great state, I am proud to call Nevada my home and look forward to raising my family here. Whether you live amongst the glitz of Las Vegas, along the shores of Lake Tahoe, in the shadows of Mt. Rose, along the Truckee, Elko, communities along Route 50, or in one of our ranching and mining towns, we are all Nevadans and I am excited to have the opportunity to work with each and every one of you.

The greater cause of changing our marijuana laws is something I'm truly passionate about. From my father, who would have benefited from the use of medical marijuana during his fight with cancer, to some of my friends who have had their lives negatively impacted by our failed war on marijuana, I have been touched personally by the harms of marijuana prohibition. I am deeply committed to changing our state's policies regarding the use of this substance.

As you know, our marijuana laws don't work. That's why MPP-NV is committing time and resources in Nevada. Past campaigns in the state in 2002 and 2006 have shown that a large segment of Nevadans no longer want to see law enforcement resources devoted to punishing people who simply choose to use a substance less harmful than alcohol. Together we can work toward a day when these punishments come to an end.

MPP-NV is dedicated to educating Nevadans about the true harms of marijuana and the irrational practice of arresting marijuana users. But we won't be able to do this alone. I am hopeful that you will assist us in this reform by supporting MPP-NV in whatever ways you can.

Supporting MPP-NV can be done in many ways — volunteering at local events, talking with friends and family about marijuana being safer than alcohol, or making a financial contribution to our work. We'll need all the help we can get to conduct the kind of public education necessary to change the failed policy of marijuana prohibition.

Thank you again for your support. Together we will accomplish great things.

Dave Schwartz
Manager, MPP-NV

P.S. I will be in Elko, Winnemucca, and Fallon over the Labor Day holiday. My goal is to distribute a substantial amount of literature and to collect e-mail addresses, so if you are available and would like to help, please contact MPP's Carson Hall at 702-727-1082.
