As you may have seen in the news already, yesterday, on the steps of the State Capitol, Nevadans for Sensible Marijuana Laws announced that it had submitted a ballot initiative to establish a legal, regulated market for marijuana in the state of Nevada. We believe passage of this initiative in 2012 would give Nevada the best marijuana laws in the world!
In short, the initiative would allow adults aged 21 and older to possess up to one ounce of marijuana and purchase marijuana from approximately 120 retail stores spread throughout the state. (You can find more details about the proposed initiative here.)
But let me be clear about one thing today; we are not planning to push this initiative on our own. This is your campaign. Victory at the ballot box in 2012 will not be the result of merely collecting signatures and putting a bunch of ads on television. We need every single person supportive of this cause to be involved, active, and vocal.
You can start today by sending this e-mail to as many fellow Nevadans as you can. Tell your friends. Tell your family. Let them know that our campaign has started and encourage them to visit our Web site, where they can learn about the initiative and sign up for e-mail alerts.
If you think some of your friends might be opposed to changing our marijuana laws because they believe it is a “dangerous” drug, encourage them to take the “Potentially Deadly Alcohol and Marijuana Quiz” we created. For the next three years, our goal is to build a grassroots army of citizens both online and on the streets who are willing to help educate the public about the fact that marijuana is simply not as harmful and dangerous as they have been led to believe in the past. If we can accomplish this goal, marijuana will be legal in Nevada in 2013!
