Title:

How are we safer?

Message:

As we have informed you over the past couple of months, part of our mission at the Marijuana Policy Project of Nevada is to educate the public about the fact that marijuana is a less harmful substance than alcohol.  Sometimes we need to be somewhat forceful to make our point.  Yesterday, we did just that.

At a news conference in front of the new Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department headquarters construction site, I asked Nevada law enforcement officials to explain how steering adults toward the use of alcohol instead of marijuana is making our communities safer.  Specifically, MPP-NV had on display a sign asking members of law enforcement to complete this sentence:

“Steering adults away from marijuana use and toward alcohol makes us safer by ___________.”

Of course, we have not heard from the law enforcement community yet.  Perhaps they are still trying to come up with an answer.

While they are thinking, I have the opportunity to bring our message to a wider audience.  Today, at 5:30 p.m., I will be a guest on Face to Face with Jon Ralston, which airs on Las Vegas 1 (COX Cable channel 19). The show will be re-broadcast tonight at 6:30 p.m., 8 p.m., and will be replayed tomorrow at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

If you are interested in what we are doing in Nevada to advance the cause of marijuana policy reform, please tune in.  And be sure to let other people know as well.  Just forwarding this message will do the trick.

Thanks for your interest and involvement in our work.
