Title:
A Major Announcement in Nevada
Message:
Game on, Nevada!
Yesterday, at a press conference in Las Vegas, I announced that we have established a political action committee to support a ballot initiative to create a legal, regulated market for marijuana for people 21 years of age or older.
Nevadans for Sensible Marijuana Laws will be conducting a signature drive in 2010 in order to place an initiative on the ballot in November 2012. This means we are less than three years away from making marijuana legal in Nevada!
The media turned out in force for yesterday's important announcement. The Associated Press, Las Vegas Review Journal, Reno Gazette Journal and The Nevada Appeal published articles. And television news stories appeared on NBC, CBS and Fox News in both southern and northern Nevada. Throughout the coverage, we were able to convey our confidence about victory in 2012.
While Nevadans for Sensible Marijuana Laws is focused on the signature drive to place the initiative on the ballot, MPP of Nevada will continue to educate the public about the true nature of marijuana. Specifically, we will make sure all Nevadans understand that marijuana is not a dangerous drug; rather, it is a substance far less harmful than alcohol and used responsibly by adults for relaxation or recreation.
If you are interested in being a part of this effort to educate the public, please sign up to volunteer on our Web site. In the future, we will be coordinating literature distribution, as well as phonebanking, which can even be done from home! You can start educating friends and family right now by encouraging them to take the Marijuana-Alcohol Quiz we developed a couple of months ago. It is both fun and informative. The next three years are going to be exciting and challenging. There is much work to be done, but together we will change people's opinions about marijuana and then, in November 2012, we will change the law.
I look forward to meeting and/or working with each and every one of you. Until then…
